Date Announced for repeal of the Architects Act

On January 30, 2023, AIBC President Stuart Rothnie announced that a date has been set for the repeal of the Architects Act and the official transition of AIBC under the authority of the Professional Governance Act (PGA). The date set is February 10, 2023. In his announcement he stated that the reserved scope of practice for architects will “essentially remain the same” with “some improvements and clarity as to when an architect is required by law.” At this time BCABD has not seen a copy of the final draft of the AIBC reserved practice, however we do understand that AIBC will impose further restrictions on Building Designers. While it appears we will be able to continue with much of our current scope of work we will have to wait until February 10th to see the new restrictions. ASTTBC is still working on reserved practice for it’s registrants, but the details are not available at this time. You can read the full announcement form AIBC here.
