BCABD|BC Association of Building Designers

All members of the BC Association of Building Designers must read and agree to the Terms of Membership and the Code of Ethics to be approved as members.

Terms of Membership

All members of the BC Association of Building Designers (BCABD) must agree to and strive to follow the Terms of Membership to the best of their ability. Violation of any of these terms can result in loss of membership without refund of any dues or compensation.

  1. Members must read and agree to the Code of Ethics and strive to conduct themselves in an ethical way, and must agree to any changes to this code as updates are shared with BCABD members.

  2. Members recognize that membership with BCABD does not constitute professional or legal recognition as a design professional, nor does it entitle them to any rights to practice.

  3. Members understand that any information provided by or through the BCABD website, app, or other correspondence from BCABD is subject to human error and it is the responsibility of the individual members to confirm all information before putting it into practice, and report any errors to BCABD for correction at the earliest convenience for the benefit of all members. BCABD will not be held accountable for any claimed damages by users for free services provided through this website, and will only accept responsibility for damages proven to be suffered by paid members to a value no greater than the current year membership fee paid by the individual member.

  4. Members understand that all information provided by BCABD in the form of downloads, videos presentations, documents, training, promotions, discounts or things of these nature are the property of BCABD, and that use of these items or materials by non-members is strictly prohibited without official permission in writing by BCABD.

  5. Members recognize that Member Directory listings are visible to any bcabd.org website or app users, BCABD does not take responsibility for how anyone uses this public information or any damages incurred by you or the user. Should a member wish to remove their name from the Member Directory a request can be submitted by the user by email and BCABD will remove the listing at their earliest convenience.

  6. Members understand that BCABD is a non-political organization and does not affiliate itself with organizations or groups that it deems not related to the building design or construction industry and/or are known to be political or social activist in nature.

  7. Members recognize that at times adjustments may need to be made to these Term of Membership and that members must agree to any new terms as a condition of membership, and that BCABD will make a reasonable effort to inform members of any changes to the agreement but it is the ultimate responsibility of all members to stay current with the Terms of Membership.

  8. Members are aware that paid member subscriptions are non-refundable and that any reimbursement is at the sole discretion of BCABD.

  9. Members understand that Corporate Sponsors pay for the privilege of sending marketing material or sharing marketing information about their products through BCABD newsletters, BCABD webinars, or through the BCABD website, and that these Corporate Sponsors are integral to the funding required to support the BCABD. Therefore, BCABD members are happy to receive these communications and learn about the services and products provided by the Corporate Sponsors.

  10. Members understand that they may cancel their membership at any time, or opt out of any mailing lists at any time by unsubscribing to the services, and that there is no need to block communication from BCABD as SPAM.

  11. Members of BCABD make it a goal to increase in their understanding of design, construction, building codes, zoning bylaws, and matters related to their work in the design and construction profession to continually raise the standards for building design.

  12. Members strive to have a team approach with other professionals in the design industry to work towards the common goal of safe, affordable, and sustainable structures for the benefit of all.

  13. Members respect that BCABD reserves the right to accept or reject any request for membership at it’s own discretion and only post information on the BCABD website that is approved by BCABD.

  14. Members who are found to have violated the Terms of Membership or the Code of Ethics posted on the BCABD website may have their membership revoked with no refund of dues paid.

  15. Members agree that any credit card information shared with BCABD is not stored on this website or by BCABD, but is stored by the payment service(s) that process payments for BCABD which include Stripe, Square, and PayPal.

  16. Members should feel free to contact BCABD with any concerns or questions, but recognize that the services provided by BCABD do not include personal training, mentoring or instruction and that communication with BCABD should not be abused.

  17. Members understand that aggression towards any BCABD representative verbally, in written form, or physically will not be tolerated and will lead to immediate revoking of membership by BCABD.

Unfortunately we live in a litigious society, many of these regulations listed above are in place to allow BCABD to work towards a common goal of all designers to see their rights to practice established and raise the standards for design in British Columbia without fear or reprisal. Please regularly review the terms of membership and check for updates to these regulations as well as for changes to the Code of Ethics.
