Building Smart: Updates to the BC Building Code

This webinar will focus on the recent changes to Part 9 of BC Building Code provisions. These changes introduce new lateral bracing methods to design for seismic loads. They also include updated climatic data that account for the effects of climate change, as well as specified wind and snow loads.  

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding on how to implement the new Code requirements. The technical team from the National Research Council Canada (NRC), University of Ottawa, and Canadian Wood Council, who contributed to updating the BC Housing Illustrated Guide: Lateral Bracing Requirements for Part 9 of the BC Building Code 2024 will discuss:

•    The reasons behind the updates to Part 9 lateral bracing provisions 
•    Modifications to lateral bracing requirements 
•    Lateral bracing design considerations for a house subject to high wind and seismic forces using the Table Bracing Method and the Calculation Bracing Method 

This session will be of special interest to builders, architects, designers, engineers, new home warranty providers, home inspectors, and other industry professionals.  

This webinar is eligible for 3 CPD credits with BC Housing.
